Javier Colina
Biography
One of the first bassists of the current scene. His musical substrate comes from his interest in popular music or popular roots. He has worked on tours and recordings with prominent jazz musicians such as Tete Montoliú, Jerry González, Al Foster and Chucho Valdés. He has also had the opportunity to collaborate with others like Hank Jones or Pat Metheny, for example.
Member of the trio CMS delving into Flamenco has performed tours and concerts with , Tomatito, Enrique Morente, Pepe Habichuela, Diego “El Cigala, and founded the trio De Cerca with Josemi Carmona and the Bandolero with whom he toured Europe and the USA for four years and continues to tour with his new project “Life”.
Immersed in classical popular Cuban music he has worked with the threesome Pancho Amat, the great Marta Valdés , Compay Segundo or Bebo Valdés. With the latter in addition to “Lágrimas negras”, he recorded the live album “Bebo Valdés & Javier Colina… Live at the Village Vanguard” in New York. As a result of his encounters with musicians from Mali he has also worked on recordings and concerts in Europe and Africa with Toumani Diabaté, the album Djelika with the quartet Diabaté, or Songhai II with Ketama.
Together with Silvia Perez Cruz directed the production of the album “En la imaginación” his most luminous work. Of the last works, the concert tour in Brazil and Spain with Silvia Pérez Cruz and the Brazilian guitarist and singer Toquinho stands out.
